Product Photography: Handmade Jewelry
To give you a bit of a background, I’ve enjoyed photography as a hobby since about my teen years. I would try to find ways to take photos of friends, family, flowers, pets, etc. I eventually took photos for actual occasions, like my best friend’s bridal photos. Then while building my career in marketing, I started taking photos for social media. I still try to find random ways to strengthen my photography skills and was excited for the opportunity to photograph Clay & Brass’ jewelry.
I first discovered Clay & Brass at a girls’ night and immediately ordered a few pairs of earnings. I love the fact that the jewelry pieces are unique and handmade. Eventually Jaime, the owner and creator of Clay & Brass, ended up working in my department and I ended up buying more of her handmade earrings. We got to talking one day about how she wanted to update the look of her Instagram feed and how I had been wanting to find a creative outlet.
The direction of the shoot was simplicity with pops of color and texture. I had fun working with different backgrounds, textures and flowers. I made sure to use these props to accentuate the jewelry, not to distract from it.
